Residential Rates
Regulated Price Plan - Electricity Rates have changed, effective May 1, 2010.
Effective May 1st, the Ontario Energy Board have changed the rates for Electricity purchased under the Regulated Price Plan. Cambridge and North Dumfries Hydro Inc. have also changed our rates as approved by the Ontario Energy Board.
The new rates for Electricity will be pro-rated on the first bill you receive with electricity usage after May 1, 2010.

GLOSSARY OF TERMS – The provincial government introduced a Simplified Bill Format in 2004 and that format remains. Residential consumers of electricity across the province all see a consistent presentation of the charges on their bill, together with a defined Glossary of Terms:
ELECTRICITY
This is the cost of the electricity supplied to you during this billing period and is the part of the bill that is subject to competition.
The first block of power or price threshold (the amount of electricity that is charged at the lower price) will change twice a year. The first block price threshold will be 1,000 kWh per month during the winter season (November 1st to April 30th) and 600 kWh during the summer season. This allows consumers to use more electricity at a lower price in the winter.
The electricity consumed is multiplied by the adjustment factor*. Cambridge and North Dumfries Hydro Inc. collects this money and pays this amount directly to our suppliers.
* Loss Adjustment Factor: When electricity is delivered over a power line, it is normal for a small amount of power to be consumed or lost as heat. Equipment, such as wires and transformers, consumes power before it gets to your home or business. The adjustment factor accounts for these losses. At Cambridge and North Dumfries Hydro Inc. our loss adjustment factor is currently 2.86%. Across the province, other electric utility adjustment factors range from 2.50% to over 9.0%.
DELIVERY
These are the costs of delivering electricity from generating stations across the Province to Cambridge and North Dumfries Hydro Inc. then to your home or business. This includes the costs to build and maintain the transmission and distribution lines, towers and poles and operate provincial and local electricity systems.
A portion of these charges are fixed and do not change from month to month. The rest are variable and increase or decrease depending on the amount of electricity that you use. Costs collected for transmission and operating the provincial grid are passed on, without mark-up, to the Independent Electricity System Operator.
REGULATORY CHARGES
Regulatory charges are the costs of administering the wholesale electricity system and maintaining the reliability of the provincial grid and include the costs associated with funding Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure conservation and renewable energy programs.
DEBT RETIREMENT CHARGE
The debt retirement charge pays down the debt of the former Ontario Hydro. Cambridge and North Dumfries Hydro Inc. collects this charge, without mark-up, on behalf of the Ontario Electricity Financial Corporation.
