SWITCH - ENERGY SUPER HERO EXPANDS HIS REACH!

CAMBRIDGE, Ont. - In 2007 Cambridge and North Dumfries Hydro Inc. in partnership with a writing team from the Waterloo Region District Public School Board

created a conservation pilot program for Grade 5 students. The conservation program was designed to captivate the creativity of our youth.

The pilot funded by Cambridge and North Dumfries Hydro Inc. included the creation of a 'larger than life mascot' named "Switch". Switch visited each of the classrooms to congratulate the students on their induction as new "Energy Champions". Thanks to financial support from Kitchener-Wilmot Hydro Inc. and Waterloo-North Hydro Inc. the teaching unit became available to public schools throughout the Region.

John Grotheer, President of Cambridge and North Dumfries Inc. announced "that it was with great pride that he recently learned "Switch" and the conservation program was being embraced beyond the borders of the Region of Waterloo". Like students in the Waterloo Region, Grade 5 students in the Halton Region now have the opportunity to learn how small energy saving habits can lead to big energy savings. Switch recently made his debut appearance at one of the programs field trip destinations, the Mountsberg Conservation Area in the Halton Region. The core elements of the conservation program including the education kit have been adopted and are being delivered under the banner "Watt's The Difference" for the benefit of students in the Halton Region.

Grotheer noted that, "the adoption of the conservation program designed by the Waterloo Region Public District School Board and Cambridge and North Dumfries Hydro, speaks volumes about how well written and timeless the conservation unit is. The writing team worked very hard at creating an important inter-active unit designed to educate, motivate and inform students about energy conservation. It is a significant achievement that this program lives on and has been embraced by other organizations and school boards beyond regional borders".

"Switch" of course is delighted to be able to continue on his journey of motivating our youth to save energy for a brighter future.
