LOCAL HYDRO FREE LIGHT STRING SWAP A SUCCESS!
CAMBRIDGE, Ont. - On Saturday, November 12th, Cambridge and North Dumfries Hydro held a free LED Festive Light Exchange for residents of the City of Cambridge and the Township of North Dumfries. The light swap started at 9:00 am sharp and was scheduled to run until 4 pm or until supplies lasted. The utility swapped lights with over 3,000 residents on Saturday – with the last string of lights being handed out at 3:36pm.
John Grotheer, President of Hydro stated, “we are actively delivering conservation programs to the residents in our community through EarthWise. The goal is to address the needs of customers by providing education, programs and tools on how to save energy and to inform customers on why we need to take the first step towards energy conservation. The Festive Light Exchange was designed to introduce customers to light strings to save energy and to reduce their hydro bills not just this year, but for years to come.
At the event, the utility had over 50 elves helping out with the exchange. Hydro President John Grotheer stated he was, “ …overwhelmed with the response from staff volunteering their time to help deliver the program to residents. We have a staff of 85 and on the day of the swap, team spirit was magnificent.
Employees came out with members of their families and members of local Scout Troup # 26 dressed in hydro orange, volunteered their time, and together they swapped some 15,000 strings of old traditional light strings for the new LED energy saving lights.”
“The success of the exchange speaks volumes about our community, said Grotheer. We have a very forward thinking community and they came out in full force to exchange their old inefficient lights with the new energy saving lights. The turnout on Saturday by the community was splendid. It clearly demonstrated their commitment to step up and embrace good habits to save energy. It was a very positive day for our utility, for our community and for the province.”
Those residents that took Cambridge and North Dumfries Hydro Inc. up on their offer to swap 5 old light strings with 5 new strings, can look forward to huge energy savings. If a customer turns on the 5 new energy efficient strings for 4 hours a day, for one-month, the total energy and delivery cost is about 15 cents. Compared to running 5 strings of the indoor traditional lights the cost amounts to about $7.50.
