LOCAL HYDRO PLANS “FREE FESTIVE LIGHT EXCHANGE” TO SAVE ENERGY AND LOWER HYDRO BILLS.
CAMBRIDGE, Ont. - The festive season is just around the corner. That means people are hauling out those decorations and getting ready for the holidays. To promote energy conservation, Cambridge and North Dumfries Hydro Inc. announced a new initiative designed to help residents in the community save energy and save money.
The local hydro will be holding a free light exchange for residents of the City of Cambridge and the Township of North Dumfries. On Saturday November 12th from 9 – 4 in the parking lot at the Cambridge Centre on Hespeler Road, volunteer hydro employees volunteers will spring into action as Santa’s helpers. Residents can bring in up to 5 strings of traditional holiday lights and swap them for up to 5 strings of energy efficient LED lights. Full details and an exchange coupon can be found on their website at www.camhydro.com.
John Grotheer, President of Hydro stated, “we are committed to delivering conservation programs to the residents in our community through EarthWise. EarthWise is our calling card for conservation. Our goal is to address the needs of customers by providing education, programs and tools on how to save energy and to inform customers on why we need to take the first step towards energy conservation. These energy saving light strings will help customers reduce their hydro bills not just this year, but for years to come.
Grotheer noted, “we want to get these energy efficient holiday lights into the community. Compared to traditional holiday lights these lights translate into a phenomenal energy saving. In fact, two full strings of these multi-coloured lights (70 bulbs) use about the same energy as one single bulb from a traditional set of lights. Switching to energy efficient strings of lights will have big impact on hydro bills and energy savings. And these new efficient strings mean a customer that really likes to decorate with lighting will conserve energy and not compromise that festive spirit of decorating. We are encouraging residents to dig out those old strings of indoor, outdoor or mini-lights and join us on November 12th as another step towards energy savings.
Cambridge and North Dumfries Hydro Inc., a local electric distribution company delivers electricity to 48,000 customers in the City of Cambridge and the Township of North Dumfries. In 2005 the provincial government empowered electric distribution companies in the province to design and deliver energy conservation and demand management programs to benefit their customers. Cambridge and North Dumfries deliver their conservation programs through their trademark EarthWise. Details on other EarthWise conservation initiatives can be found at www.camhydro.com.
