Earthwise Partnering
At Cambridge and North Dumfries Hydro Inc. we believe that we can enhance the EarthWise initiatives we deliver to customers by partnering with organizations that can add value for our customers. We are proud to be partners with:
Residential Energy Efficiency Project (REEP) - Home Energy Audits and More!
REEP is a non-profit initiative that provides independent expert advice about home efficiencies to homeowners. REEP delivers a home energy audit modeled after the EnerGuide for Houses evaluations using certified energy advisors, standardized national software and co-op student interns to give each homeowner a standard rating and individualized energy plan for action.
EarthWise partnered with REEP to promote home energy audits evaluations and incentives for geothermal heating and cooling installations as well as incentives for customers switching from an electric water heater to a solar water heating system.
The geothermal and solar installation program closes August 15th, 2007.
In its place Cambridge and North Dumfries Hydro Inc. are promoting the province wide conservation programs designed and funded through the Ontario Power Authority. Check out the program links on our home page for: Summer Savings, The Great Refrigerator Roundup, peaksaverTM and Electricity Retrofit Incentive Program (ERIP) for commercial retrofits.
Conservation Bureau - Coupon and Energy Tip Booklets
The Conservation Bureau has been charged with helping to shape and deliver provincial wide conservation programs and education to residents of Ontario. We are pleased to partner with the Conservation Bureau to deliver conservation information and coupon booklets to our customers during the year. In 2006 we participated in the Spring and Fall coupon program. For 2007 we will continue to support the province wide tools and programs introduced by the Conservation Bureau to benefit electricity customers across the province.
Educating our Youth - Waterloo Region Children’s Museum
The Waterloo Region Children’s Museum creates playful environments where art, technology and science meet to encourage spontaneous learning and to cultivate aptitudes for creative lives.
EarthWise is proud to provide support to the Waterloo Region’s Museum in the creation of a new interactive display to educate visitors about energy conservation. The new interactive display is being designed for Grade 1 children across the Region. The intent of the pilot is to leave no child behind. Every Grade 1 student in the Waterloo Region would participate in this energy conservation display. The final pilot will kick off in late 2006 and run through 2007.
Educating our Youth - Waterloo Region District Public School Board - Reduce Your Use!
EarthWise is excited about working together with the Waterloo Region District Public School Board to develop and support the implementation of a pilot curriculum project. The new project dubbed ‘Reduce Your Use’, will focus on energy conservation for select Grade 5 classes in Cambridge and North Dumfries. This module will educate students on climate change, Canada’s energy consumption on a global front, and technologies available to reduce energy use.
The scheduled release date of the module is January 2007, with delivery to the schools in early spring. As part of the curriculum we have created an energy mascot, “Switch”. Watch for a visiting ‘Switch’ to celebrate the achievements of each class at the end of the unit. Much like the adoption of the Blue Box and the 3 “R’s – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle - Cambridge and North Dumfries Hydro Inc. believe that educating our youth about how and why we should save energy – is key to building a conservation culture in Ontario.
Canadian Energy Efficiency Alliance - Switch to Cold Program
T he Canadian Energy Efficiency Alliance considers themselves to be the leading voice in Canada to promote and advance energy efficiency and its related benefits to the economy and the environment. The Alliance works in partnership with manufacturers, utilities, governments, builders, labour, consumer groups, and environmental organizations to facilitate the adoption of energy efficiency measures in Canada.
EarthWise have partnered with the Alliance to deliver the “Switch to Cold” Program to all customers. This energy initiative includes a $1 coupon to be redeemed for cold-water detergent. All customers will be provided with energy conservation information about the benefits of cold-water washing and a coupon.
The Clean Air Foundation - Cool Shops Program
The Clean Air Foundation is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to developing, implementing and managing public engagement programs and other strategic approaches that lead to measurable emission reductions, to improve air quality and protect the climate.
EarthWise partnered with the Clean Air Foundation to bring the Cool Shops program to the City of Cambridge and Township of North Dumfries in the summer of 2006. This program is designed to help small business owners assess their energy efficiency needs and provide expert advice on energy saving upgrades. The audit also included complimentary compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) and an LED exit sign retrofit kit. As a result, over 200 businesses in our service territory are now benefiting from an overall savings of 30 kW hours of peak demand reduction!
