Energy Conservation
Welcome. Thank you for taking the time to check out our home page for Conservation.
In 2004 the provincial government empowered all electric utilities in the province to design and deliver programs to all customers that would employ conservation and demand management strategies. That meant that our role to deliver energy was expanded to deliver even more to our customers.
There are differences between strategies for “conservation” and strategies for “demand management”.
Conservation activities are designed to reduce end-use demand for energy by reducing the service demanded. For example turning off a light when you leave the room.
Demand Management activities are actions that reduce the quantity of energy consumed at specific times. For example reducing use during peak demand when pricing is typically higher.
In 2007 the Ontario Power Authority took the lead to strengthen the conservation culture. They now design conservation and demand management programs for residents and businesses across Ontario. This central role has added the element of consistency for electricity consumers in Ontario. Electric utilities in Ontario are united in the delivery of provincial programs designed to build a conservation culture. To keep the momentum, electric utilities also have the opportunity to develop and deliver unique pilot programs in their service areas.
