Commercial Initiatives

At Cambridge and North Dumfries Hydro Inc., we are passionate about delivering tips, tools and education through EarthWise to help our customers conserve energy and save money.

We believe that in order to cultivate a conservation culture in our community we need to educate and communicate good information to every customer class. To be successful we need all customers to become actively engaged in cultivating good habits in how and when they use energy.

Check out some of the initiatives being delivered by EarthWise:

Refrigerator Replacement Incentive - for Bulk Metered Apartment Buildings
This program has now concluded.  We were proud to offer an incentive to replace older inefficient refrigerators in bulk metered apartment units for new ENERGYSTAR™ qualified models.  The energy savings alone in replacing a 20 year old fridge can accumulate to over $150 a year.

Cool Shops - Small Business Energy Auditing
This program has now concluded.  In the summer of 2006 we were proud to partner with the Clean Air Foundation to bring the Cool Shops program to the City of Cambridge and Township of North Dumfries. This program is designed to help small business owners assess their energy efficiency needs and provide expert advice on energy saving upgrades. The audit also included complimentary compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) and an LED exit sign retrofit kit.

We were successful in achieving our goals; with the following results:

  • 300+ businesses visited with 202 completed audits
  • 296 CFLs distributed
  • 292 LED exit retrofit kits delivered
  • 320 CFLs purchased
  • 30 kW hours of peak demand reduction.

To all businesses that participated, we say thank you for embracing energy conservation and congratulations on taking the first steps forward toward new energy savings.

Large Commercial Customers - eMeter Data
Energy costs have a significant impact on a businesses bottom line. Understanding when and how you use energy in your business is critical information for evaluating saving opportunities.

For large commercial customers with an interval meter, we launched eMeter Data, a new complimentary energy management solution. eMeter Data is a secure, online web presentment tool that will provide the business with access to their present energy usage, energy pricing and historical data. This new tool will allow the company’s staff to become educated on when they use energy and the price of that energy, hour by hour.

For those customers currently subscribing to energy management solutions from a third party, eMeter Data may complement that service.

Look for our series of Energy Saving Tips frequently published in the local paper and included here on our website. They provide you with common sense ideas about how to save energy without compromising your comfort.

Open Letters to Customers
We have increased the number of customer communications published in the local papers to help our customers become aware of energy issues in our community and our province. These letters are designed to increase customer awareness of current energy matters.

Bill Messages and Inserts about Conservation
Watch for energy saving messages on your bills and bill inserts with energy saving coupons. Our alliance with the Canadian Energy Efficiency Alliance enabled us to distribute a $1 coupon to all customers for cold water detergent as part of the Switch to Cold campaign.
